REMOVAL OF HONEY BEES NESTS
DISCOVERED DURING TREE REMOVAL/PRUNING
During 2008 we had discovered 4 honey bees nests in trees we have been
working on. Obviously, this is a problem for us to carry out
work with angry bees present. In the past we have used a pest
control company to kill the nest and then completed the work.
Since our colleague from Reading Borough Council and friend Steve
Radford completed a course on Bee Keeping, our views and procedures have
changed. Steve informed us that honey bees are seriously in
decline for reasons that are not at present understood. The
Government have started a research project to try and understand whey
this is happening. With this in mind avoiding destroying nests and
relocating them instead has been our aim.
This involves: Identifying nest
prior or during works, Blocking Entrance Holes, Careful removing from
site and delivering to Steve's Apiary
